Creative Direction, Education & Brand Development
Makeup by Mario is the beauty brand and global education platform founded by Mario Dedivanovic. The work presented here reflects a multi-year creative partnership focused on education, representation, and the translation of artistry into scalable systems.
My role extended across creative direction, photography, casting, live production oversight, digital design, and brand development. Rather than operating as isolated initiatives, each project built upon the last, forming a cohesive ecosystem where education, identity, and product expression reinforced one another.
The work is organized into three projects.
Chapter I : The Masterclass
Live Education, Representation & Experiential Direction
The Masterclass was conceived as a global live education platform designed to bring Mario’s techniques directly to artists and audiences worldwide. What began as demonstration evolved into experience.
As the platform expanded internationally, my role focused on diversifying and strengthening the educational format. Casting was approached with intention across each location, ensuring that technique was demonstrated on a wide range of skin tones, facial structures, and identities reflective of the communities hosting the Masterclass. This allowed the education to remain globally consistent while locally resonant.
Alongside casting, I served as photographer and live production lead. I oversaw stage execution, visual clarity for large projected screens, and the translation of live technique into readable, instructive imagery for both in-person audiences and extended digital reach. I also directed creative development for social advertising and supported the evolution of the website and promotional materials.
Every Masterclass sold out nationally and internationally. More than attendance, the platform established a new standard for live beauty education. It demonstrated how representation, pedagogy, and experience design could operate together at global scale while maintaining clarity, rigor, and creative integrity.
Chapter II : The Master Course
Education as Identity
Education has always been central to Mario’s practice. The Master Course was developed as an intimate, hands-on evolution of that belief.
This project reframed education as mentorship. Students became the artists. Mario became the guide.
I developed the structure and identity of the Master Course, casting professional models for each student and coordinating hairstylists, assistants, and production support. I created look guides and moodboards that allowed students to make intentional creative decisions while working within a cohesive visual framework.
Each participant completed the course with a professionally photographed final image for their portfolio, reinforcing education as both process and outcome.
I sourced and secured studios capable of supporting large-scale hands-on training across multiple cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Paris, London, and Milan. The program expanded rapidly until the global pandemic brought in-person education to a halt.
In response, I led the conceptual transition to a digital education platform. This evolution resulted in the Master Academy, transforming archived live demonstrations into structured online courses. Through UX and instructional design, the platform preserved intimacy, clarity, and global accessibility at a time when physical education was no longer possible.
This project demonstrates how creative direction can adapt education without compromising its integrity.
Chapter III : Makeup by Mario
Brand Launch, Growth Under Constraint & Product as Tool
As Makeup by Mario transitioned into a consumer beauty brand, my role focused on visual storytelling and product expression during a period of global disruption.
The brand launched during the pandemic, when traditional retail models were constrained and digital engagement became essential. Rather than slowing momentum, this context sharpened focus. The brand’s educational foundation and visual clarity allowed it to scale rapidly while maintaining a strong sense of identity.
I served as beauty photographer for the brand’s first three product collections, shaping imagery for e-commerce and launch contexts at a time when visuals carried heightened responsibility. With in-person experience limited, imagery needed to communicate texture, performance, and technique with precision. The visual language emphasized clarity over spectacle, reinforcing Mario’s belief that makeup should demonstrate function as much as beauty.
In parallel, I explored how product design could operate as an extension of education. Packaging was treated not simply as presentation, but as a working tool, reinforcing technique, usability, and professional intuition. This thinking is reflected in products such as the Master Mattes Pro Lip Palette, where form and layout support artistry rather than trend.
Despite launching under extraordinary conditions, Makeup by Mario expanded quickly, established a strong global presence, and became one of the most visible new beauty brands of its era. The work demonstrates how a clear creative foundation, when aligned with education and execution, can support rapid growth without compromising integrity.
Project Context
Together, these three projects illustrate a holistic approach to creative direction. Education becomes identity. Representation becomes structure. Product becomes pedagogy.
The work reflects an understanding of how artistry, teaching, and brand systems can coexist and evolve while remaining grounded in intention and craft.
